Firmware - Mass changes
Introduction
Mass firmware upgrade provides a centralized and efficient approach, allowing simultaneous implementation of security improvements and corrections on multiple devices. This saves time and resources while ensuring maximum safety and performance.
Path: Tools menu > mass updates > firmware.
Benefits of Mass Update
- Centralised and efficient approach
- Simultaneous implementation on multiple devices
- Time and resources savings
- Maximum safety and performance assurance
Important remarks
- Check firmware compatibility with device model
- It is recommended to test initially on 2-3 devices before mass update.
Mass Update Status
- Scheduled: The update is scheduled to take place at a specific date and time and does not require manual intervention after scheduling.
- Completed: The update was successfully performed on more than 90% of the devices, indicating that the process was successful.
- Failure: The update is interrupted by the system when no device is updated, being triggered if more than 30% of the devices fail to update, refuse the file, or present timeout. This automatic interruption is implemented to prevent complications during the process.
- Interrupted: The update was paused by the user before its completion.
- Partially updated: Only one part of the devices were successfully updated, while the others failed.
- Executing: The update is ongoing and has not yet been completed.
Update process
Step 1: Device Selection
- Access: Tools Menu → Mass changes
- Click New update
- Fill in the filters:
- Manufacturer
- Model
- Hardware
- Firmware (current version)
- Click Search to view the devices
- Select devices to update
- Click Next Step 2: Firmware Selection
- Select a firmware file available in ACS
- If necessary, upload a new file:
- Fill: Version, File Type, Tags
- Draw the file to the designated field
- Click Next Step 3: Summary and Schedule
- Review the templates summary to update
- Choose between:
- Start now
- Schedule start (set date and time)
- Click Complete and Start or Complete(for scheduling)
- Enter the user password to confirm.
Monitoring the Process
- Access: Tools Menu → Mass updates
- Visualize: -Total of devices
- Devices successfully updated
- Devices rejected or not completed
- Pending devices
You can stop the task while running, affecting only devices not yet updated.
Scheduled cancellation
ACS allows you to cancel scheduling mass updates, providing more flexibility and control in device management.
- Important points:
- What? Cancellation is only available for status updates Scheduled
- What? Upon canceling, the update will be marked as interrupted
- What? The devices involved will appear with a status of error
- What? The firmware update will not be executed for these devices
Functional advantages:
- Greater autonomy to adjust processes as needed
- What? Prevention of incorrect or ill-planned actions
- Simplified management and attention to operational unforeseen events
This functionality ensures full control over scheduled updates, preserving the integrity and efficiency of the device environment.
I'll be right there # Redoing update
Clicking the button Redo update, you will be directed to the stage of mass firmware update. On this screen, you can choose between:
- Schedule start - lets you set date and custom schedule for the start of firmware update;
- Start now - executes the update immediately. After selecting the desired option, click Complete to confirm.
- Important points:
- What? In the reschedule, it will not be possible to change the model, hardware or firmware, as the system uses the same settings as the previous update (not completed in full);
- What? Only the devices that presented failure in the previous attempt will be considered when redoing the update;
- What? ACS allows you to reschedule** the update if necessary.
Best Practices
- Test on a small group of devices before mass update
- Schedule updates for low network traffic periods
- Keep a record of applied firmware versions
Final considerations
Mass firmware upgrade is a powerful tool to maintain network security and performance. Use it with caution, following best practices and safety recommendations. The ability to cancel scheduling adds an extra layer of control, allowing last-minute adjustments when needed.
